Science Advance: Heart Failure Clinical Trials Network

ACTSI investigator, Javed Butler, MD, MPH (Cardiology, Emory) leads the NHLBI-funded network and is working toward a common goal of finding better treatment options for patients with heart failure, through projects like the ACTSI-supported The Atlanta Cardiomyopathy Consortium (TACC) and publications like Validation of the Health ABC Heart Failure Model for Incident Heart Failure Risk Prediction: The Cardiovascular Health Study.

Butler and his team sought to develop a new prediction model for five-year risk of incident heart failure among older persons. Validation of this model was done with support from the ACTSI. It was found that the Health ABC HF model demonstrated adequate performance for heart failure risk assessment in a large, prospective cohort.
