ACTSI Investigator & PI Dr. David Stephens in the News
David Stephens, MD is Chair, Department of Medicine, Emory School of Medicine, Vice President for Research, Woodruff Health Sciences Center, Chief of Medicine, Emory Healthcare, and investigator and principal investigator, Atlanta Clinical & Translational Science Institute (ACTSI). His laboratory is a lead group in an international effort to define the molecular basis for virulence and vaccines to prevent bacterial meningitis. In 1988, Stephens co-founded the Atlanta Active Surveillance Project (now the Georgia Emerging Infections Programs), a population-based surveillance and clinical research program. In 2001, he led CDC's clinical emergency response team in defining clinical issues in prophylaxis, diagnosis and treatment of B. anthracis infections. Many may not know that Dr. Stephens lived in Alaska for two years.

Stephens was recently elected to the Nominating Committee of the Southern Society for Clinical Investigation. He was elected Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology. Fellows are elected in recognition of their records of scientific achievement and original contributions that have advanced microbiology.
