Primates 101: A Practicum for Using Monkeys in Research-November 10

The practicum comprises nine 20-minute presentations, each devoted to a separate topic related to the use of monkeys in translational research (see below). The presentations will use real-world examples to guide prospective investigators, laboratory personnel, and administrators through the complexities of primate studies; the material is especially designed for individuals at institutions lacking their own primate facilities. This practicum is being offered both as a webinar and in-person.

Recruiting: Scientific Quality Reviewers for the CTSA Consortium Scientific Review Committee (SRC) Pilot Study, a national study funded by NCATS

Scientific Quality Reviewers provide key data to assess the primary outcome of protocol quality. Participation is an opportunity for CTSA and senior faculty to demonstrate alignment with NCATS initiatives by collaborating in a consortium-level project, and for junior faculty to gain valuable service experience.

Bio-Related Consultation

A statistics research group directed by ISyE/BME professor Brani Vidakovic is now offering free consulting for data-analysis questions in the domain of bio-related initiatives. During the academic year 2016/17, every Tuesday from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. in the Petit Institute at Georgia Tech, the group will provide assistance and statistical advice for external grant applications, model/methodology selection, and publication/Ph.D. thesis work, as well as general data analysis coming from Georgia Tech research labs.

Finding Compounds that Inhibit Zika

NCATS scientists have identified compounds that inhibit Zika virus replication and reduce its ability to kill brain cells. These findings could lead to novel therapies to help combat the Zika public health crisis.
