Repurposing Existing Therapeutics to Address the 2019 Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) - First Due Date June 5

National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) is issuing this Notice of Special Interest to highlight the urgent need for research on the 2019 novel coronavirus and the disease it causes. NCATS is particularly interested in projects that repurpose existing drugs or biologics (existing therapeutics) that have already begun or completed a Phase I clinical trial.

Emory SOM Bridge Funding Program Applications - Due April 15

(NOTE: Emory DoM Internal was due April 1 and funding rules have been updated.) To assist investigators who have temporarily lost significant federal research funding, and to facilitate carefully planned changes in research direction, the Emory School of Medicine offers a Bridge Funding Program. Bridge funding up to $100,000 (including Department support/matching funds) will be available to investigators based on merit, potential for renewal of external funding, and availability of SOM funds.

Wake Forest Primate Program Feasibility Study Announcement - LOI Due April 27

Wake Forest Primate Signature Program provides access to nonhuman primates (NHPs) and related resources for studies that advance translational research. To assist new NHP researchers, the Program is providing funds for feasibility studies to be conducted using monkey-related resources. The objective is to facilitate the collection of data from NHPs in support of applications for extramural funding. A key innovation strategy is to promote interdisciplinary and cross-departmental and -divisional research. The SOM I3 Education Awards are soliciting proposals that highlight, promote, and disseminate innovations in medical education and training (degree programs and GME) that enhance the Emory SOM mission. Please note that the project start date is now listed as “TBD.” We will re-evaluate the start date when we review proposals and better understand where research stands across Emory at that time.

Administrative Supplements for Development of Training Modules in Genomic Medicine - Due May 1

The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) announces the availability of funds to support the development and implementation of modules aimed at providing health care professionals with genomic medicine training. Topics include clinical use of genomic data, genomic tests, analysis of clinical genomic data, pharmacogenomics, use of genomic information for preventive medicine, etc. Development of training materials and/or curriculum needs to be within the scope of the parent grant. Application budgets are limited to $125,000 total costs per year.

Equipment Request for Emory COVID-19 Research Projects

Many Emory investigators are pursuing essential and critical research projects focused on the COVID-19 pandemic. If you have plans to collect or are currently collecting samples from COVID-19 patients, please respond with a brief description of your work and the type of sample (DNA, serum, PBMCs) you need. Providing essential platforms to support COVID-19 research is a high priority. Requests for new equipment to directly support COVID-19 research are being collected via email. Case Study Reporting Tool Built by the FDA/NIH: CURE ID

CURE ID is an internet-based repository that lets the clinical community report novel uses of existing drugs for difficult-to-treat infectious diseases through a website, a smartphone or other mobile device. The platform enables the crowdsourcing of medical information from health care providers to guide potentially life-saving interventions and facilitate the development of new treatments for neglected diseases.
