Inclusive Excellence: Linking Workforce Diversity and Health Equity Goals
Efforts are underway to narrow the gap in representation of racial/ethnic groups and women in the biomedical research workforce. Georgia CTSA Principal Investigator Elizabeth Ofili, MD, MPH, and Integrating Special Populations Director Brian Rivers, PhD, MPH, MSM, along with leaders in biomedicine, demonstrate how The Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) Program provides a framework for inclusive excellence in biomedical research.

Nominations for Georgia CTSA Team Science Awards – Due October 25
The Georgia CTSA established the Presidents' Award of Distinction for Team Science and the Team Science Award of Distinction for Early Stage Research Teams to reward and promote excellence in multi-disciplinary research teams within the Georgia CTSA. The winning teams will receive a monetary award for continued research and will be recognized at the 2022 Southeast Regional Clinical and Translational Science Conference, March 3-4, 2022.

The Injury Prevention Research Center Core’s Pilot Research Program (PReP) seeks to fund pilot grants led by Emory faculty that will catalyze and advance IPRCE priorities and priorities of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) in falls, traumatic brain injury (TBI), opioid and other drug safety/overdose prevention, violence prevention, and transportation injury prevention.

The application portal is now open for the Vanderbilt-Emory-Cornell-Duke (VECD) Fogarty Global Health Fellowship 2022-2023 cohort. This outstanding program offers a year-abroad opportunity for US and LMIC postdocs and US doctoral students to develop research skills in a global health setting. N3C - COVID-19 Analytics Platform
Researchers studying COVID-19 are able to access an innovative analytics platform that contains clinical data from the electronic health records of people who were tested for the novel coronavirus or who have had related symptoms. Part of the NCATS National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C) Data Enclave, the centralized and secure data platform features powerful analytics capabilities for online discovery, visualization and collaboration.

Presidents’ Award of Distinction for Team Science – Due October 25
The Presidents’ Award of Distinction for Team Science, conferred by the Presidents of the academic institutions of the Georgia CTSA, recognizes and promotes excellence in multi-disciplinary research teams within the Georgia CTSA. This award will be presented to an outstanding multi-disciplinary research team in recognition of its innovative and impactful research that has, or will likely, advance clinical and translational science and positively impact human health. The recipient of the Presidents' Award of Distinction for Team Science will receive $5,000 towards their team science research program. Teams will be recognized at the Southeast Regional Clinical and Translational Conference, March 3-4, 2022.

The Team Science Award of Distinction for Early Stage Research Teams recognizes and promotes excellence in developing multi-disciplinary research teams within the Georgia CTSA. The recipient of the Team Science Award of Distinction for Early Stage Research Teams will receive $2,500 towards their team science research program. Georgia CTSA COVID-19 Biorepository
The Georgia CTSA Clinical Research Center at Emory has established a COVID-19 Biorepository that includes residual nasopharyngeal (NP) swab samples from over 1,700 patients known to be COVID-19 positive and negative. Our goal is to provide de-identified samples to investigators validating or developing diagnostics and therapeutics in an effort to improve the understanding of the effects, response, and mechanism of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and its variants.

Calling all undergraduate students! Applications are now open for the 2022 Petit Undergraduate Research Scholars, a paid fellowship program for undergraduates to conduct independent, bio-related research for a full year at the Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience (IBB) at Georgia Tech.
