Study for New Type 1 Diabetes Treatment Co-Led by Georgia CTSA Principal Investigator
Georgia CTSA Principal Investigator Andrés J. García, PhD, led a team of researchers who are moving a hopeful treatment for type 1 diabetes closer to the clinic. The results of their study using microgels have been published in Science Advances . Dr. García is the Petit Chair and Executive Director of Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience and Regents' Professor in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech.

Georgia CTSA Investigator Notes Importance of Pregnant Persons Receiving COVID Booster
A new study indicates COVID-19 vaccine booster during pregnancy increases maternal and fetal antibodies. Georgia CTSA investigator Denise Jamieson, MD, MPH, Chair of Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics and Chief of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Emory Healthcare, says the study was "carefully conducted," demonstrating "the booster provided robust and relatively durable antibody response.” Read her comments in JAMA Perspective, June 22, 2022.

Pilot Research Project Proposals: Injury Prevention Research Center at Emory (IPRCE) and Emory Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) – LOI Due July 15
The goal of this joint call for proposals is to foster a new generation of research and interventions at the intersection of HIV and injury. Injury and HIV share multiple common determinants (e.g., ACEs, structural discrimination), and parallel inequities exist in the burden of each. Pilot project applications should be designed to build the foundation for a future, externally funded (e.g., NIH R01) grant that will advance NIH HIV Research priority areas as well as CDC NCIPC research priorities and IPRCE priorities.

GCRCs now offer 13.8 contact hours for completing Phlebotomy 101 Training, an introductory training to venipuncture. The two-day classroom and clinical hands-on training teaches venipuncture. Free Online Trainings for Clinical Research Professionals
Georgia CTSA and the University of Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute (SC CTSI) have created an Online Course Catalog with a free course and program offerings available to clinical research professionals. Participants earn a certificate or badge with contact hours (continuing education – CE) from an accredited provider upon completion of a course or a program (series of courses). Contact hours can be used to meet requirements for CRP certification renewal. The newest program, “Innovation to Translation: Role of Genomics in Medical Product Development,” is now available online. QUAL-WORKS: Qualitative Research Workshops
QUAL-WORKS offers a series of training workshops on qualitative research. We offer three types of workshops: scheduled workshops, individual mentored sessions, and customized workshops. Scheduled workshops are held twice a year during summer. Mentored sessions provide individual mentoring with a QUAL-WORKS expert on your own research project. Customized workshops can be developed to meet the training needs of your organization.

Faculty and postdocs are welcome to enroll in a fall semester course that is part of the curriculum in the Certificate Program in Translational Research at the Laney Graduate School. Tuition awards are not available, but faculty and postdocs at Emory may be eligible for the Emory Courtesy Scholarship if employed for at least one year.
