NIH Funding Opportunities Specific to COVID-19

This page contains a listing of active and expired funding opportunities specific to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

* Basket Clinical Trials of Drugs Targeting Shared Molecular Etiologies in Multiple Rare Diseases (U44 Clinical Trial Required) – Due Dates Vary

The purpose of this FOA is to provide support for basket clinical trials of drugs targeting shared molecular etiologies in more than one rare disease, and in the process to identify and overcome challenges in adapting the oncology basket trial model to rare diseases. NCATS will give priority to projects involving clinical investigators who are part of the Rare Disease Clinical Research Network (RDCRN), and which focus on diseases under study in the RDCRN. Pilot Projects Investigating Understudied Proteins Associated with Rare Diseases (R03 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) – Due Dates Vary

The purpose of this FOA is to solicit applications for pilot projects to elucidate a role for understudied proteins associated with rare diseases and provide applicants with sufficient funding to perform basic biochemical and/or biological work to further the characterization of understudied proteins associated with a rare disease. A list of eligible proteins is provided and are members of druggable protein families that have a known association with a rare disease.

Children’s Environmental Health Research Translation – Due Dates Vary

The Center for Children’s Health Assessment, Research Translation, and Combating Environmental Racism (CHARTER) announces Pilot Program. A major focus of CHARTER is to develop effective strategies to translate research findings of importance to children’s environmental health to relevant stakeholders in the community, academia and among healthcare providers. Georgia CTSA Pilot Grants Program: Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 or Long COVID – Due September 15

Emory has received a commitment from a donor to support seed grants for studies of Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) or Long COVID. We are soliciting proposals that generate preliminary data and refine research strategies for subsequent extramural grant applications. Studies can involve basic, translational, or clinical studies of any aspect of PASC or Long COVID.

CFAR-HBCU Collaborative Award for Research Exchange Program – LOI Due October 3

Are you an early-stage HIV investigator or independent investigator who is new to HIV research at an Atlanta-area HBCU? The Emory CFAR invites you to apply for a one-year pilot award of up to $50K for research projects that aim to advance HIV prevention, treatment, care, and/or cure strategies.

Phlebotomy 101 Training - July 28 & 29

GCRCs now offer 13.8 contact hours for completing Phlebotomy 101 Training, an introductory training to venipuncture. The two-day classroom and clinical hands-on training teaches venipuncture. This course is offered to research coordinators and led by GCRC nurses. Open to Emory University, Emory Healthcare, and Georgia CTSA employees at MSM and UGA. The next training is July 28-29. Advanced Registration Required: Register in ELMS (Emory Learning Management System) .

Free Online Trainings for Clinical Research Professionals

Georgia CTSA and the University of Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute (SC CTSI) have created an Online Course Catalog with a free course and program offerings available to clinical research professionals. Participants earn a certificate or badge with contact hours (continuing education – CE) from an accredited provider upon completion of a course or a program (series of courses). Contact hours can be used to meet requirements for CRP certification renewal. The newest program, “Innovation to Translation: Role of Genomics in Medical Product Development,” is now available online. Select a course/program that interests you and click on the blue “Enroll” button.

Fundamentals of Epidemiology Course - August 29 to December 5

Faculty and postdocs are welcome to enroll in a fall semester course that is part of the curriculum in the Certificate Program in Translational Research at the Laney Graduate School. Tuition awards are not available, but faculty and postdocs at Emory may be eligible for the Emory Courtesy Scholarship if employed for at least one year. This is a semester-long course that meets on Mondays from 3:10 PM -5:00 PM from August 29 until December 5, 2022. For more information and instructions on how to enroll, contact Rachel Hardison .

Course in Advanced Data Management in R - August 30 to December 6

Faculty and postdocs are welcome to enroll in a fall semester course that is part of the curriculum in the Master of Science in Clinical Research degree program at the Laney Graduate School. Tuition awards are not available, but Emory faculty and postdocs may be eligible for the Emory Courtesy Scholarship which would cover tuition for the course. This is a semester-long course that meets on Tuesdays, from 3:10 PM to 5:00 PM from August 30 until December 6, 2022. Prerequisite: Completion of or concurrent enrollment in a basic statistics course covering at least linear regression (BIOS/MSCR 500 or equivalent). Contact Cheryl Sroka .

RADx COVID-19 Research Testing Site at Executive Park

Emory, Georgia Tech, and Children’s are working with NIH’s Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx) program to evaluate and bring more COVID tests to market and recently opened a new COVID testing site at 59 Executive Park South NE. Symptomatic individuals who agree to participate in the research will receive a $50 gift card and no cost PCR COVID test. Learn more .

K12 Intensive Skill Building and Orientation Workshop – July 28 and 29

The purpose of the workshop is to provide our incoming K12 scholars and others with an in-depth overview of what’s involved in conducting therapeutic cancer clinical research. The target audience includes fellowship trainees and residents, as well as APP trainees, pharmacy residents, and other allied specialists. Participants (other than the K12 scholars) can pick and choose what sessions they wish to attend, and the workshop is hybrid – both in-person and virtual. View the agenda .
