GCRCs Unit Charge Nurse Appointed to NASEM’s PPE & PPT Committee

Jill Morgan, RN, Georgia CTSA Clinical Research Centers (GCRCs) Unit Charge Nurse III at Emory University Hospital, has been appointed to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Workshop on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Personal Protective Technology (PPT) Product Standardization for a Resilient Public Health Supply Chain. This committee will help update and streamline the national standardization system for PPE and PPT in support of an unexpected disruption to the supply chain. “My goal is to make the bedside a safer place for healthcare workers of all kinds,” says Morgan.

HEAL Commercialization Readiness Pilot (CRP) Program: Embedded Entrepreneurs for Small Businesses in Pain Management – Due Dates Vary

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to facilitate the transition of previously funded SBIR and STTR Phase II and Phase IIB projects in pain management to the commercialization stage by providing additional assistance for private partnering activities through the Commercialization Readiness Pilot (CRP) program. Specifically, this FOA supports the addition of entrepreneurial expertise into small business leadership teams along with supporting partnering activities to aid in commercialization through private third-party funding or partnership with industry.

American Skin Association (ASA) 2023 Grant Announcement – Due Dates Vary

The American Skin Association (ASA) funds and promotes research to defeat melanoma and other serious forms of skin disease. Research Scholar awardees' work in areas such as antimicrobial peptide research, skin stem cell function, wound healing, and skin cancer has laid groundwork for better treatments of infection, hair loss, and cancer. Grants are concentrated in five areas — melanoma, skin cancer, psoriasis & inflammatory diseases, vitiligo & pigment cell disorders, and atopic dermatitis.

Enhancing the Use of the All of Us Research Programs Data – LOIs due January 30

The All of Us Research Program (All of Us) within the Office of the Director (OD) encourages investigators to apply for grant awards that will advance research in high-priority mission areas of the Institutes, Centers, and Offices (ICOs) through two companion FOAs (1) one to use standard methods and approaches to analyze currently available data within the All of Us Research Program’s Researcher Workbench and (2) one to develop new methods, models, and tools and use them to analyze data in the Researcher Workbench. The new tools will be made broadly available to the scientific community. This FOA uses the R03 grant mechanism to support data analysis using standard methods, while the companion FOA uses the R21 grant mechanism for new tool development and application.

SOM I3 (Imagine, Innovate, and Impact) Wow! Research Awards – Due March 9

The Dean of the Emory School of Medicine (SOM) is soliciting proposals to promote innovative research. In the current round, grants will be considered for proposals with the potential to make a transformational impact in either fundamental biomedical knowledge or translational impact are being solicited. If successful, the project will provide new ways of thinking about a problem. Particularly creative ideas, even without preliminary data, will be considered provided feasibility is demonstrated. Collaborations are strongly encouraged but not required. Preference given to outside-the-box ideas.

* Georgia CTSA Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design RFP - Due April 7

Georgia CTSA’s Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Research Design program is soliciting proposals to support novel methodological research in biostatistics, epidemiology, or health services research to advance clinical & translational research. Review criteria include quantitative methodological research to fill gaps, innovation, feasibility, and plans for dissemination and translation. New investigators are encouraged to apply.

Atlanta Network for Training in KUH Scientific Research (ATLANTIS) – Now Accepting Applications

The ATLANTIS Program is currently accepting applications from pre- and postdoctoral trainees from Emory University, Morehouse School of Medicine, and the Georgia Institute of Technology engaged in research related or relevant to nephrology, urology, and nonmalignant hematology. Trainees pursuing basic laboratory, clinical, translational, informatics, and outcomes research projects are all eligible for funding consideration. The ATLANTIS program will provide successful applicants with 2 years of research training support. Apply now !

Georgia CTSA TL1 (T32-like) Training Grant Clinical and Translational Research Training - Predoc Due February 15, Postdoc Due March 15

The TL1 program is focused on providing innovative didactic and mentored research training to individuals interested in careers that encompass clinical and/or translational research. The TL1 program supports predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees (medical and PhD students, resident and fellow physicians, PhD postdocs, and PharmD residents).

Certificate Program in Translational Science (CPTS) Request for Applications - Due April 3

The Certificate Program in Translational Science (CPTS) is a formal 16-credit Emory Laney Graduate School program for trainees who seek to conduct research at interface between basic and translational science and clinical medicine. The CPTS enhances and transforms translational research training for predoctoral PhD students, postdoctoral fellows (PhD or MD) & junior faculty at Emory, MSM, Georgia Tech & UGA.

RADx COVID-19 Research Testing Site at Executive Park

Emory, Georgia Tech, and Children’s are working with NIH’s Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx) program to evaluate and bring more COVID tests to market and recently opened a new COVID testing site at 59 Executive Park South NE. Symptomatic individuals who agree to participate in the research will receive a $50 gift card and no cost PCR COVID test. Learn more .

12th Annual Southeastern Pediatric Research Conference - June 9

The 2023 conference will take place at the Georgia Aquarium and will highlight the scope of pediatric research conducted across the southeastern US, with emphasis on research from Emory, Children’s, Georgia Tech, and MSM. This conference brings together basic and clinical researchers with pediatricians and healthcare providers to promote the integration of cutting-edge research into clinical practice.
