Funding (* New Opportunities)

Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) – Due Dates Vary

ARPA-H’s agency-wide Open-Office Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) is seeking funding proposals for research aiming to improve health outcomes across patient populations, communities, diseases, and health conditions. The BAA calls for proposals to outline breakthrough research and technological advancements. Additionally, The ARPA-H Dash is a collaborative online competition open to bold thinkers across health, scientific, and technology communities, as well as the general public, using bracket format and online discussion, debate, and voting to narrow competition submissions during March and April 2023. Cash prizes will be awarded to ideas that reach competition quarterfinals and beyond, as well as the chance for further development with ARPA-H Program Managers.

Emory SOM Bridge Funding Program – Due Dates Vary

The Emory School of Medicine (SOM) offers a Bridge Funding Program to assist investigators who have temporarily lost significant federal research funding and to facilitate carefully planned changes in research direction. Bridge funding is for Emory Department of Medicine applicants only and will be available to investigators based on merit, potential for a renewal of external funding, and availability of SOM funds.

Investigator-Initiated Project Grants in Healthcare Innovation - LOI Due April 1

The Emory-Georgia Tech Healthcare Innovation Program, with partners including Georgia CTSA, announce seed grants to fund multi-investigator & multi-disciplinary teams examining healthcare services and clinical effectiveness involving adult and/or pediatric patients. The funding priority for this round will be for proposals that address issues in dealing with pandemics.

Georgia CTSA Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design RFP - Due April 7

Georgia CTSA’s Biostatistics, Epidemiology & Research Design program is soliciting proposals to support novel methodological research in biostatistics, epidemiology, or health services research to advance clinical & translational research. Review criteria include quantitative methodological research to fill gaps, innovation, feasibility, and plans for dissemination and translation. New investigators are encouraged to apply. Meritorious applications from new investigators will be prioritized for funding.

* Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) Global Scholars Program – Internal Emory Due Date April 13

NGSP matches innovative thinkers from select academic institutions with NIBR scientists to explore new and exciting research directions to discover and develop transformative medicines. Academic scholars will have access to disease area drug-hunting and translational research expertise. By joining forces with our entrepreneurially motivated scientists, they can challenge the status quo, take bold risks, and advance research into early development stages in some cases. Contributions by NIBR to facilitate collaboration with selected scholars may include data, non-proprietary materials, or services, subject to review and approval. Emory is one of a select group of invited institutions with PIs eligible to apply.

Atlanta Pediatric Research Alliance Pilots – Due April 14

Pediatric research is thriving and expanding in Atlanta through a unique, multi-institutional initiative. Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Emory University School of Medicine, and Georgia Institute of Technology have formed a close partnership that combines the clinical strengths of the institutions and offers pilot grants for faculty and centers in the Pediatric Research Alliance. Proposals should be aimed towards generating preliminary data for subsequent extramural grant applications and involve at least one investigator from Emory DOP or Children’s.

* 2024 Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences – Internal Emory Due Date April 20

The Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences provides funding to young investigators of outstanding promise in science relevant to the advancement of human health. The program makes grants to selected academic institutions to support the independent research of outstanding individuals who are in their first few years of their appointment at the assistant professor level. Emory is one of a select group of invited institutions with PIs eligible to apply.

* 2024 Searle Scholars Program Internal Competition – Internal Emory Due Date April 20

The Searle Scholars Program makes grants to select universities and research centers to support the independent research of exceptional young faculty in the biomedical sciences and chemistry. This program supports the independent research of outstanding early-career scientists who have recently been appointed as assistant professors on a tenure-track appointment. Emory is one of a select group of invited institutions with PIs eligible to apply.

Emory SOM I3 (Imagine, Innovate, and Impact) Nexus Research Awards – Due April 25

The I3 Nexus Research Awards will provide seed money to fundamental biological and translational investigators for obtaining sufficient data to ultimately develop external collaborative funding applications, and to investigators who may not otherwise engage in multi- and interdisciplinary research. These awards require interdisciplinary team collaboration, with at least one collaborator outside of the home department/division (within the SOM) who brings a different discipline, expertise, or methodology to the project.

Emory Imagine, Innovate, and Impact (I³) SOM/Atlanta VA Research Awards - Due June 5

The Dean of the Emory School of Medicine (SOM) and the Assistant Dean for VA Research at the Atlanta VA Medical Center are soliciting proposals that will enhance collaboration among existing VA and Emory scientists. These collaborative awards are intended to spark synergistic interactions among investigators, at least one from Emory SOM and Atlanta VA each.

Improving Minority Health and Eliminating Health Disparities – Due September 6

Two Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) ( Technologies and Innovations for Healthy Living ) invites eligible United States small business concerns (SBCs) to submit Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant applications that propose to develop a product, process, or service for commercialization with the aim of improving minority health and/or reducing and ultimately eliminating health disparities in one or more NIH-defined populations that experience health disparities. Appropriate technologies should be effective, affordable, and culturally acceptable.

Certificate Program in Translational Science (CPTS) Request for Applications – Extended: Due May 1

The Certificate Program in Translational Science (CPTS) is a formal 16-credit Emory Laney Graduate School program for trainees who seek to conduct research at interface between basic and translational science and clinical medicine. The CPTS enhances and transforms translational research training for predoctoral PhD students, postdoctoral fellows (PhD or MD) & junior faculty at Emory, MSM, Georgia Tech & UGA.

Frontiers in Environmental Science and Health (FrESH) Training Program – Due May 5

This innovative advanced program will train and mentor promising graduates, medical students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty from predominantly underrepresented communities in sophisticated technologies in Environmental Health Science Research. FrESH offers dynamic training courses that consist of daily lectures from leading experts, active learning sessions, and extended discussions on important and emerging topics followed by hands-on laboratory sessions for a week-long summer course.

12th Annual Southeastern Pediatric Research Conference - June 9

The 2023 conference will take place at the Georgia Aquarium and will highlight the scope of pediatric research conducted across the southeastern US, with emphasis on research from Emory, Children’s, Georgia Tech, and MSM. This conference brings together basic and clinical researchers with pediatricians and healthcare providers to promote the integration of cutting-edge research into clinical practice. This year’s conference theme is Optimizing Health across the Lifespan through Innovation, Discovery, and Equity. Submit abstracts by April 1.

NIDDK Workshop – July 24-25

The National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Disorders (NIDDK) invites you to attend the workshop, “Optimizing Clinical Trials in Chronic Disease”. This webinar will focus on optimizing clinical trials, focused on improving recruitment, planning, and reviewing available tools from NCATS/CTSA to assist investigators in planning trials. The webinar will include a patient panel, and special attention to the concerns of research coordinators, as well as lessons learned from successful clinical trials in the COVID era.
