Georgia CTSA MSCR Student Awarded Prestigious Research Fellowship

Congratulations to current Georgia CTSA Master of Science in Clinical Research (MSCR)/medical student and former Georgia CTSA TL1 Trainee Cecilia Castellano who received a AΩA 2023 Carolyn L. Kuckein Student Research Fellowship. The fellowship provides $5,000 to support her research project, “Incidence and Risk Factors for Comorbidities Following COVID-19 Disease in People Living with HIV”, and a maximum of $1,000 to reimburse travel expenses related to the presentation of her Fellowship research.

Emory SOM Image, Innovate, and Impact (I3) GCMI Research Awards RFP – Due October 24

In partnership with Georgia CTSA, SOM is soliciting Emory proposals that will accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries to health benefits through collaborations between Emory and GCMI. Proposals are intended to improve patient care by more effectively and efficiently developing and commercializing devices and products through preclinical and product development services. Collaborations with GCMI are required.

NIH Build UP Trust Challenge – Due November 14

The NIH Build UP Trust Challenge seeks solutions that increase research participation and the adoption of medical care by building trust and improving engagement with historically underserved communities. The NIH Build UP Trust prize challenge aims to identify new and promising scalable strategies that increase research participation and the adoption of existing and new tools and approaches to detect, treat, and monitor diseases, conditions, and disorders by improving engagement with minority health populations and populations with health disparities.

NOSI: Next-Generation Approaches to Renal Replacement Therapy Including Vascular Access – Due January 5

This notice of special interest (NOSI) aims to support the development of innovative approaches to renal replacement therapy and address critical accompanying challenges such as vascular access and fluid management during dialysis. It is anticipated that the funded applications will propose to develop and test in appropriate models and/or research participants novel technologies related to renal replacement therapy.

NOSI: Quantum Sensing in Biomedical Applications (SBIR/STRR) – Due January 5

NEI and participating NIH Institutes and Centers are issuing NOSI to solicit applications proposing to advance research activities relevant to quantum sensing in biomedical and clinical research and application. The purpose of this NOSI is to support small businesses for stimulation of technological innovation in quantum sensing.

Phlebotomy 101 Training – October 19 & 20

Phlebotomy 101 is a two-day introductory classroom and clinical hands-on training that teaches the techniques of venipuncture to research coordinators monthly and is led by GCRC nurses. The course is only offered to Emory, Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM), and the University of Georgia (UGA) faculty and staff. Please note: the course is open to research professionals that serve the adult population only. We do not accept pediatric research professionals. Learn More.

ATLANTIS Training for Postdocs – Apply by November 1

The ATLANTIS Program is currently accepting applications from postdoctoral trainees from Emory, MSM, or Georgia Tech for research training in the fields of hematology, nephrology, and urology.

Georgia CTSA KL2 Clinical and Translational Research Career Development Program – Apply by February 1

The goal of the KL2 Program is to support and enhance career development for junior faculty (MD, PhD, MD/PhD, PharmD) committed to a career in clinical and translational research (CTR) and clinical and translational science (CTS). Georgia CTSA is committed to assisting junior faculty at partner institutions to become independent, established, and ethical CTR and CTS investigators. Georgia CTSA TL1 (T32-like) Training Grant Clinical and Translational Research Training - Predoc Due February 15, Postdoc Due March 15

The TL1 program is focused on providing innovative didactic and mentored clinical and translational research (CTR) training to individuals interested in careers that encompass CTR and clinical and translational science (CTS). The TL1 program supports predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees (medical, PharmD and PhD students; resident and fellow physicians; PhD postdocs; and PharmD residents). Georgia CTSA and SC CTSI created an Online Course Catalog with free course and program offerings available to clinical research professionals. Participants earn a certificate or badge with contact hours (continuing education – CE) from an accredited provider upon completion of a course or program (series of courses). Biorepository for Investigators

Georgia CTSA Clinical Research Center at Emory has established a Biorepository that includes an array of infectious disease samples. Our goal is to provide de-identified samples to investigators validating or developing diagnostics and therapeutics in an effort to improve the understanding of the effects, response, and mechanism of a variety of infectious disease samples including SARS-COV-2 and its variants. View current Biorepository Dashboard.

GCRCs Services and Fee Schedule

The Georgia CTSA Clinical Research Centers (GCRCs) is a service center focused on providing resources to support Principal Investigators within the research community. Effective October 1, 2023, the new fee schedule, including a slight price increase, will be implemented for locations at Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, Emory Johns Creek, Emory St. Joseph’s and Grady Memorial Hospital. We offer a range of services from Outpatient clinical care to Bionutrition & Exercise Physiology, Study Coordinator Support, and Laboratory Processing. By delivering pay-as-you-go services, GCRCs aim to minimize the cost of conducting studies.

Georgia CTSA Team Science and Diversity Awards – Due October 24

Georgia CTSA’s Team Science and Diversity Awards are now open! This year, we offer four eligible awards for investigators: Presidents’ Award of Distinction for Team Science, Team Science Award of Distinction for Early-Stage Research Teams, Faculty Excellence in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Clinical/Translational Science Award, and Staff Excellence in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Clinical/Translational Science Award. The recipients of these awards will be recognized at the 2024 Southeast Regional Clinical and Translational Conference (February 28- March 1, 2024). Applications are due by October 24.

Writing, Dissemination & Reviewer Learning Community for Community-Patient Authors and Reviewers – November 11

Join us for a fantastic opportunity to enhance your partnership’s scholarly writing skills and connect with other community-academic authors at our workshop. This in-person gathering will take place from 5:00-8:00pm at the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs in Atlanta, GA. This workshop offers a platform to guide collaborative writing with multiple authors, share ideas, receive valuable feedback, and collaborate with fellow community-academic researchers. Participants will learn and practice skills for scholarly writing, collaborative research dissemination, and receive additional support from PCHP’s editorial team during all learning community activities.

Preparing the Future Workforce in Drug Research & Development Workshop – October 16-17

Forum on Drug Discovery, Development, and Translation will host a public workshop for stakeholders to consider what is needed to support the next-generation workforce – one that is resilient, culturally aware, and interdisciplinary. Workshop participants will identify the types of expertise and disciplines needed to achieve the aspirations for a transformed clinical trials enterprise in 2030 and enable a workforce that can better support the evolving needs of drug discovery, development, and translation. There will also be an opportunity to explore issues related to the lack of diversity and approaches for engaging and preparing a more person-centered drug R&D workforce.

Attend the 10th Annual UGA-FDA Medical Device Joint Regulatory Conference (UGA-FDA MDRC) virtually or in-person with your peers and experts which provides educational and networking opportunities to help shape and advance the future of medical device regulatory sciences.
