Georgia CTSA Welcomes New KL2 Scholars
Congratulations to the new scholars in the Georgia CTSA KL2 Scholars Program . The goal of the Georgia CTSA KL2 Program is to support and enhance career development for junior faculty interested in a career that encompasses clinical and translational science, and clinical and translational research. The KL2 Program supports career development for junior faculty from a wide variety of disciplines at the Georgia CTSA partner institutions.

11th Annual UGA-FDA Medical Device Regulations Conference
The virtual conference on August 21 from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM will be opened by leadership at FDA and UGA. Topics will be presented by highly experienced professionals and technical experts from FDA and the medical device industry. This year’s conference provides an opportunity to understand the complementary nature of information regarding current and forthcoming FDA policies, guidance, and regulations governing the medical device industry.

NOSI: Emory CFAR Research Projects Related to Mental Health, Health Equity, and HIV - LOI Due September 3
The Center for AIDS Research at Emory University (Emory CFAR) has released a Notice of Special Interest (NOSI) inviting applications for pilot grants up to $50,000 focused on HIV and mental health, utilizing a health equity approach. This funding aims to support projects that enhance access to mental health care for people living with HIV, reduce stigma, and promote integrated care models. Collaborative projects must include a faculty PI from Emory University or AUCC and a community-based partner from the Metro Atlanta area.

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society: Clinical Trial Participation from Underrepresented Groups – LOI Due September 12
Academy Health is working with Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) to disseminate latest RFP under Equity in Access Research Program. “Building Evidence for Effective Interventions to Increase Therapeutic Cancer Clinical Trial Accrual: Promoting Access for Patients from Underrepresented Groups,” will fund research studies that will increase our understanding of effective interventions for increasing accrual in therapeutic cancer clinical trials, particularly among underrepresented populations. LLS will review submissions to allocate up to $2.5 million per funded study over 5 years, with awards to begin July 1, 2025.

Phlebotomy 101 Training – August 29 & 30
Phlebotomy 101 is a two-day introductory classroom and clinical hands-on training that teaches the techniques of venipuncture. Led by the GCRC nurses, the course is offered to Georgia-CTSA affiliated partners.

Patients Needed for Georgia CTSA Recruitment Center's Patient Advisory Panel
The Georgia CTSA Recruitment Center is recruiting patients or care partners who receive care at Emory Healthcare or Grady Hospital to join a Patient Panel. Researchers, care providers, or other faculty and staff can share the flyer linked here with interested patients. This panel will serve as a resource for all CTSA investigators who are looking to gain patient insight about specific aspects of their study, or general research topics. Panel discussion topics could include designing recruitment materials, developing consent language, best practices for research recruitment contact, and more. The NeuroImmune Network Hypothesis (NIN) combines both biological and social factors to suggest how stress gets under the skin of children who experience chronic stress and then leads to life long mental and physical health problems. This biosocial approach suggests that the mechanisms that have been uncovered through research on biological and social processes can be better understood through a more wholistic approach which investigates how these systems interact with each other and further the effects of stress. Researchers focusing on pediatric and adult infectious diseases are invited to submit abstracts and present posters on innovative research topics, including microbial pathogenesis, immune responses, and vaccine development.
