Science Advance: Tele-psychiatry Project Serves Linguistically-isolated Patients using Community-based Participatory Research
Dr. Ruth Shim, assistant professor at Morehouse School of Medicine's National Center for Primary Care, and Dr. Jiali Ye developed and implemented a pilot project using tele-psychiatry to serve 16 Korean-speaking patients in Atlanta who were linguistically-isolated. The study connected a trusted community organization in Atlanta, the Center for Pan Asian Community Services, with a Korean psychiatrist at the Asian Community Mental Health Center in Oakland, California. Preliminary analyses show an improvement in clinic outcome as reflected by three mental health indicators (Kessler-6, PHQ9, and HAM-A).
