Dr. Sweeney recently directed a quality assurance program at Emory that is achieving continuous enhancements in clinical outcomes, patient safety and services. One such initiative was the addition of the acute and critical care surgery service to Emory University Hospital’s (EUH) emergency department. EUH data showed that the program had shortened surgical response time to emergency cases, reduced the average length of stay and lowered the 30-day readmission rate.
