Ahmed, Jens Wrammert and Bali Pulendran (pathology and laboratory medicine) earned the "Paper of the Year" award from the International Society for Vaccines in January. Their paper, published in Nature Immunology, describes a method scanning gene activity in the blood a few days after vaccination to predict whether an individual will produce high levels of antibodies against a flu shot. Their technique was developed on studies of human volunteers who were vaccinated during flu seasons in 2007, 2008, and 2009.
