He was named the recipient of this year’s HIVMA Research Award, to be presented at 2013 ID Week in San Francisco. This national award recognizes HIVMA members who have made outstanding contributions to HIV medicine in clinical or basic research. Dr. Ofotokun’s research activities have focused on translation work in women’s health in the setting of HIV-infection, which attracted multiple NIH awards including a recently completed K23 award, two active R01 awards and a recent NIH-funded Emory Women Interagency HIV Cohort Study U01 award.

Finally, he is co-PI on a multi-million dollar, five-year NIH funded Women Interagency HIV Cohort Study (WIHS) that began in January. The WIHS was established in 1993 by the NIH to study the natural and the treated history of the HIV infection in a population of women representative of the epidemic in the U.S. This award opens new opportunities to advance women’s health research in the setting of HIV/AIDS at Emory.
