ACTSI Investigator Dr. Jeff Sands in the News
Jeff Sands, MD, is an ACTSI investigator, Co-PI, and director of the Pilot Grants program and the Juha P. Kokko Professor of Medicine and Physiology, Director of the Renal Division, and serves as Executive Vice-Chair of the Department of Medicine. Dr. Sands’ research involves the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate the urine concentrating process in the kidney. His work specifically focuses on the proteins that transport urea and water across the cell membrane and how their activities are regulated under physiologic and pathophysiologic conditions like diabetes. Dr. Sands was the 2012 recipient of the Excellence in Research Accomplishment Award for basic science and presented his research at the DOM Research Day. In his free time, he is an avid ALTA tennis player.
Sands was selected to present the 2013 American Physiological Society Renal Section’s Carl W. Gottschalk Distinguished Lecture at the 2013 Experimental Biology (EB) Conference in Boston, MA.
