Kooby adapted existing da Vinci robotic technology to perform Emory's first robotic pancreatectomy to treat pancreatic tumors. His team has operated on 10 patients so far and is evaluating patient outcomes and satisfaction compared with those of standard laparoscopy.

Publications:
Kooby et al.  published a study showing the heart's ability to store the nitric oxide generated during exercise and the ways this process appeared to be an essential component to protecting the heart after a heart attack. The study, published in Circulation Research, became the journal's most widely read article of 2011.

He is also co-author of “Oncologic Outcomes after Videoscopic Inguinal Lymphadenectomy (VIL) for Stage III Melanoma.” The study is the first description by an academic medical center of VIL for melanoma and provides evidence that this minimally invasive procedure is as effective as the current standard of care but results in fewer complications.
