ACTSI Scholar Dr. Ashish Mehta in the News

Ashish Mehta, MD, ACTSI scholar, assistant professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine, Emory School of Medicine and infectious disease physician at Emory Healthcare. His research focuses on the impact of alcohol abuse on immune dysfunction in the lung, and more specifically on the role of pulmonary zinc deficiency in alcoholism. Chronic alcohol ingestion causes numerous defects in the lung – collectively known as the ‘alcoholic lung.’ Mehta will soon be starting a clinical trial to evaluate the potential value of dietary zinc supplementation as a therapeutic modality in patients with alcohol use disorders. In his free time, he plays the drums and played in a garage band before he started medical school.
