Georgia CTSA investigators Carlos del Rio, MD and Lauren F. Collins, MD, Emory University, along with Preeti Malani, MD, MSJ, University of Michigan, published an important viewpoint titled, ‘Long-term Health Consequences of COVID-19’. This piece details the potential cardiovascular, neurologic, pulmonary, mental health and well-being effects. The viewpoint also addresses the essential need for an integrated, multidisciplinary approach to better characterize how post–acute phase disease manifests in organ systems and overall health.

Since its publication in November 2020, the viewpoint has received impressive recognition, with an increasingly high Altmetric Attention Score placing it in the top 5% of all research outputs scored by Altmetric. It has been cited a total of 37 times and mentioned by 37 new outlets, such as CNN and ABC, 8 blogs, 2 policy sources, over 1900 tweeters, and more. One of those policy sources includes the ‘COVID-19 Rapid Guideline: Managing the long-term effects of COVID-19’ by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence in the UK.
