EPIC Data from Grady Available for Research

From budgeting data requests to understanding access requirements, researchers working with Grady clinical data often face complex planning decisions early in the study lifecycle. A newly launched Grady Research Data Services page now provides a centralized starting point for investigators across Emory and partner institutions to plan, scope, and request research data support more effectively.
Available on the Emory at Grady Research SharePoint site, the Grady Research Data Services page brings together guidance, tools, and intake information to support clearer planning and coordination with the Grady Research Data Team. This resource was developed in response to recent updates to Grady’s research data processes and in preparation for the Emory at Grady Research Data Cost Recovery Model, which launched January 1, 2026.
Who Can Access Grady EPIC Data for Research
Access to Grady EPIC data for research purposes requires appropriate approvals and investigator collaboration:
- Investigators must submit a Research Data Access Request Form and obtain both IRB approval and Grady Research Oversight Committee (GROC) approval prior to receiving data.
- Grady-based studies must include a Grady-based investigator, defined as a faculty member who clinically practices at Grady for at least 50% of their time.
- Georgia CTSA investigators from partner institutions who work with an Emory or Morehouse physician who practices at Grady may access Grady data, and a Data Use Agreement (DUA) may be required.
Information on costs associated with research data requests and recent process changes is available on the Grady Research Data Services page. Investigators with additional questions are encouraged to contact the Emory at Grady Research Office.
What’s Included
Research Project Size Guide
The page features a Research Project Size Guide to help investigators scope their data requests appropriately. The guide outlines:
- Estimated hours and cost ranges by project size
- Key project characteristics to support accurate planning
- Example use cases for different types of research requests
By setting expectations early, the guide helps reduce delays and promotes more efficient collaboration with data partners.
Request for Funds for Unfunded Studies
For studies without current funding, investigators may submit a Request for Funds through a dedicated intake form. Limited financial support from the Emory at Grady Dean’s Office may be available on a case-by-case basis to help support essential data services.
