New Research Reveals Major Person-to-Person Differences in Release of Infectious Virus into the Air

A new study finds people with influenza expel infectious virus into the air at widely varying levels. “Human challenge studies provide a unique window into how infections unfold in real people, day by day,” says Georgia CTSA investigator Nadine Rouphael, MD, Emory, clinical PI of study. “This approach allows us to safely and carefully link symptoms, viral dynamics and transmission-relevant outcomes in ways that directly inform public health.”
